Kolo Toure, a former defender for Arsenal, has been chosen to lead Wigan Athletic in England.
Toure is now the first African international to serve as head coach of a club at the highest level of English football after being hired by the Latics. Richardson was fired by the Championship team after losing his past eight games. Yaya, Toure's younger brother, was also asked to play the part but turned it down.
The former Arsenal star has honed his talents under Brendan Rodgers since joining LeicesterCity in February 2019. Kevin Betsy and Ashvir Johal will be on his backroom team, and Rob Kelly will act as his deputy manager. He intends to accompany the squad on their current midseason training tour to Turkey.
Chief Executive Malachy Brannigan said, “We are delighted that Kolo has become the new manager of Wigan Athletic Football Club, and the board are pleased that he is the man to take us forward.”
On December 10th, when Wigan plays Milwall in the Championship, the manager will take his place in the dugout for the first time.
