Nigerian envoy hails Super Eagles despite Portugal loss

The Super Eagles were praised by Alex Kefas, the Nigerian ambassador to Portugal, despite their Thursday night 4-0 defeat to the Selecao.

The team led by Jose Peseiro was comprehensively outplayed in the friendly match at Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.

After the game, Kefas met the players along with the Nigerian ambassadors to Guinea Bissau and the Czech Republic.

“I’m happy you are here, even though the game’s outcome was disappointing. I believe this is just the beginning of our relationship with the Nigeria Football Federation,” Kefas asserted.

“It was a friendly game, and the Super Eagles have done well over the years. It was their first game against Portugal, and the first time they will be playing here.

“I see this as a sign of friendship between the Portuguese national team and us.

“Aside from the Super Eagles coming here to train a couple of times in the past, this is the first time we are seeing the team in action here.

“I observed some of you were devasted when you came in, but that’s football. You lost today, but it is also important to concentrate on the future.

“We will keep on supporting you and the NFF as well as our head coach, Jose Peseiro.”
