The governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has said he won't hand over control to someone with political and administrative expertise.
He warned his successors, telling them not to be quick to "learn on the job" by employing the tools of political influence.
During the 2022 Enugu State Cultural Festival in Aba, Dr Ikpeazu delivered a speech.
He maintained that power should only be granted to those who have demonstrated their worth via education, moral character, real-world experience, and a working knowledge of the area.
According to the governor, only these leaders have a history of continuing where they left off and guaranteeing that the people continue to gain from democracy's advantages.
Ikpeazu lauded the good connections between Enugu natives residing in Abia State and the government and residents of the state. He was represented by Chief John Kalu, the Commissioner for Trade and Investment. He described them as "model and essential Abia community members who have contributed to the development of the state."
He asked the state's Enugu residents to support Prof. Uche Ikonne, who he claimed had a track record of achievement, for him to carry out his legacy projects and be elected governor.
Ikpeazu emphasised that the government will keep its promise to return Ariaria International Market's renovated A-line to its original owners by the end of the following month.
Ikonne, a governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), thanked the Enugu State residents for giving him a beautiful wife and life partner who, in his view, personified the qualities of a virtuous lady at the ceremony. Prof. Bartholomew Nnaji, a former minister of power, presided over the occasion.
By casting their votes for him and other PDP candidates, he urged them to contribute to fostering the relationship between himself and the people of Enugu State.
To boost state wealth and remove barriers to the state's quick growth and prosperity, Ikonne invited the populace to participate in his "TIGER" economy and "participatory governance" programmes through his running mate Okey Igwe.
