Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, allegedly lied to his four other G-5 group members, according to Daniel Bwala, a spokesman for the People's Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council.
Remember that Wike is the de facto spokesperson for the G-5 group, which consists of him and four other PDP governors who are displeased, namely Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom, Seyi Makinde, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Seyi Makinde of the states of Benue, Oyo, and Abia.
The G-5 has said that as long as Iyorchia Ayu remains in his role as National Chairman, they will not support Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of their party.
Despite the fact that they haven't formally endorsed any opposing party candidates, there are indications from their states that they intend to make good on their promise.
This past week, rumours circulated that Wike had instructed his supporters and allies in Rivers to mobilise behind APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu (APC).
However, in reaction to this information, Bwala said that the governor of Rivers had misled to his four other G-5 counterparts over which presidential candidate they would all back.
Wike couldn't publicly support Tinubu, according to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), since he gave his G-5 buddies the impression that he was endorsing Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party.
In the same interview where he also declared that the Rivers State governor didn't matter, he made this statement.
The PDP campaign spokesman claimed that Wike disregarded his agreement to reveal the name of the preferred presidential candidate of the G-5 and Integrity Group because he was concerned about being expelled from the party. It would have been viewed as anti-party behaviour to do so.
Bwala’s words: “He is dishonest and inconsequential. You recall that he promised to announce their preferred candidate in January. When a BBC correspondent reminded him of the pledge, he responded that January had not ended. Now that January is over, he said he never revealed to anyone the methodology of disclosure of their preferred candidate. He is now saying he has told his people who to vote for.
“He can’t announce his candidate because he knows the consequences. The party can expel him outright for gross misconduct and anti-party activities. He made them (his colleagues) believe that he was behind Peter Obi. So, he can’t openly come out now to declare support for the APC candidate because the other four governors do not want Tinubu.”
