Sobomabo Jackrich, the National Rescue Movement (NRM) Governorship candidate in Rivers, has accused certain authorities in the state of planning to frame him up with false rape and child molestation accusations in order to scuttle his ambition. Jackrich, who made this known at a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Sunday, alleged that his criticism of the authorities on their subversion of the will of the people during the Feb. 25 elections was his offense.
He further stated that the alleged plan was to prevent him from participating in the March 18 governorship and State Assembly elections by putting him off and locking him up by security agents. Jackrich also claimed that he spoke against the ills and happenings in the state, such as giving employment and promotions of workers a few weeks before the expiration of the current administration.
According to Jackrich, the same people had framed him up on spurious allegations in 2019 and were to charge him to court on child rape and child molestation, all in an attempt to tarnish his image. He called on security agencies and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the allegations and avert the plan.
Jackrich's party vowed not to relent in ensuring that his reputation is not tarnished by any cheap blackmail or campaign of calumny that would make him look like a criminal.
The NRM governorship candidate accused certain people of being behind the plot to frame him up, but did not mention any names. He, however, insisted that the plot was real and that he had evidence to back up his claims.
Jackrich said: "It is obvious that I am a target because I am a threat to them. They want to do everything possible to make sure that I do not run for the office of governor of Rivers State. But they will fail. I am a man of integrity and I will fight this to the end."
The NRM candidate also called on his supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard any false information or allegations against him, and to continue to support his ambition to become the next governor of Rivers State.
He said: "I know that my opponents are desperate, but they should know that I am not afraid. I will continue to speak the truth and fight for what is right. I am confident that the people of Rivers State will see through their lies and vote for me on March 18."
