Obi expressed his belief that efforts will be made to tarnish his image and launch campaigns of calumny in the coming months.
In a statement shared on his verified Twitter account, Obi warned that these schemes aim to degrade his support base and create confusion among the public.
Obi's statement comes shortly after the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu on Monday. Despite the circumstances, the former governor of Anambra State called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding, emphasising the importance of maintaining composure in the face of political developments.
While acknowledging the existence of malicious designs against him and his supporters, Obi made it clear that his character and integrity cannot be easily diminished. He pledged to continue working with like-minded individuals to put an end to the cycle of missed opportunities and dashed hopes in Nigeria.
"I am aware of some evil designs being hatched against me and my supporters in the coming months. Efforts will be made to taint my image. Campaigns of calumny are being perfected to defame my character and diminish my hard-earned integrity," Obi stated. He went on to affirm that no malicious campaign can alter the essence of his character or undermine his unwavering commitment to a better Nigeria.
Obi's concerns highlight the challenges faced by political candidates in a highly competitive landscape. As the political climate intensifies, it is crucial for individuals to critically evaluate information and exercise discernment when faced with campaigns aimed at tarnishing the reputation of public figures. The resilience and dedication demonstrated by leaders like Peter Obi will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the future of the nation.
