Taking to Twitter, Dabiri shared his decision, stating, "After almost four incredible years at Twitter, I decided to leave the nest yesterday."
The entry of Ron DeSantis into the race for the White House encountered significant hurdles as a Twitter livestream malfunctioned, causing delays and frustrations for users. The incident highlighted the challenges faced by the social media platform in handling high-profile political events.
Since its acquisition by multi-billionaire Elon Musk, Twitter has undergone significant changes, including a drastic reduction in its workforce. More than 80% of the company's employees have been let go following Musk's acquisition. It remains unclear whether Dabiri's departure is directly related to the technical issues during the DeSantis campaign launch.
When approached by the BBC, Mr Dabiri did not provide specific reasons for his departure, and Twitter refrained from commenting on the matter. However, in a series of tweets, Dabiri reflected on his time on Twitter, expressing that he had experienced two distinct eras: before and after the acquisition by Musk. He acknowledged the massive and rapid transition that occurred as Twitter evolved into its "2.0" phase.
Dabiri further stated, "To say it was challenging at the outset would be an understatement." Despite the difficulties, he also praised his experience working with Elon Musk, describing it as highly educational and enlightening. He expressed admiration for Musk's principles and vision, which he believes are shaping the future of the company.
The technical issues with the Twitter livestream significantly impacted the launch event for Ron DeSantis' bid for the Republican presidential nomination. The event began 20 minutes behind schedule, and by the time it commenced, hundreds of thousands of frustrated Twitter users had already left the platform.
Ron DeSantis, the current governor of Florida, has long been anticipated to enter the 2024 race for the White House and is considered a chief rival to former President Donald Trump for the Republican party's nomination.
It is worth noting that Elon Musk, who heads Tesla and SpaceX, acquired Twitter for a staggering $44 billion (£35.4 billion) in October. Since taking control of the company, Musk has initiated a series of changes, including significant layoffs affecting various departments, including engineers responsible for the site's operations and technical troubleshooting.
As the departure of Foad Dabiri, a prominent engineering chief, adds to the list of notable personnel changes within Twitter, the company continues to navigate challenges in maintaining a stable platform for high-profile events and political campaigns.
