Accountability Lab Calls on Tinubu to Lead Anti-Corruption Efforts
A Civil Society Organisation, Accountability Lab, has emphasised the need for President Bola Tinubu to address corruption in Nigeria effectively, without following the footsteps of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

During a press briefing in Abuja, Blair Glencorse, the Executive Director of Accountability Lab, highlighted the high expectations from President Tinubu to enhance the fight against corruption, promote transparency, and increase citizen engagement to ensure accountability to the people.

Glencorse drew attention to the shortcomings of the previous administration, stating that while President Buhari promised to combat corruption, the efforts faced setbacks in terms of investigations, prosecutions, and policy changes.

He remarked, "President Buhari began his tenure with significant power and potential to build strong institutions, but corruption breeds distrust. Well before his second term, he had lost any credibility he may have had to fight corruption."

The primary objective of the Accountability Lab is to promote awareness and understanding of accountability through digital governance. With a new president in office, the organisation expects all stakeholders to actively contribute to building accountability and supporting good governance.

Odeh Friday, the Country Director of Accountability Lab, emphasised the importance of public consultation in the new administration's agenda. He stressed the need for inclusivity and citizen engagement in the decision-making process. Friday highlighted the consequences of passing bills and making laws at higher levels without adequate consultation from the citizens. He urged the new administration to prioritise public consultation as a fundamental aspect of governance.

As Nigeria moves forward with a new leader, the call for robust anti-corruption measures, transparency, and citizen participation becomes increasingly significant. The nation looks to President Tinubu to address corruption effectively and ensure that accountability and good governance prevail in Nigeria.
