Edo Governor Empowers Youths and Promotes Education
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, reaffirmed his administration's commitment to education and the active involvement of youths in governance during an interactive session with Edo State youths. The event, held to commemorate the 2023 Democracy Day and the inauguration of the new executives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Edo State Chapter, emphasized the importance of youth engagement in public affairs.

Governor Obaseki highlighted his administration's efforts to create an enabling environment for youth participation, not only in Edo State but also in the country as a whole. He emphasized the digitalization of Edo State as a significant step toward connecting Edo youths digitally, recognizing it as the future. The installation of Wi-Fi in public spaces such as Urhokpota Hall, Civil Service Commission, Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, and Nursing School Sapele Road aims to foster connectivity. The governor further announced plans to provide free Wi-Fi access to all local governments in the state by October.

Education was another key focus of the governor's address. He proudly stated that Edo State has the fewest out-of-school children in Nigeria, a testament to the administration's commitment to ensuring quality education for the state's youths. Governor Obaseki emphasized the importance of starting governance participation from the grassroots, such as in schools. He encouraged youth associations and organizations to establish roots in schools, starting from at least the SS1 level, to foster early engagement and participation.

Speakers at the event included Rev. Olu Martins and Prof. Eddy Eghaghe, among others. Rev. Martins acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerian youths but commended those striving to improve the lives of fellow citizens. He acknowledged the efforts of individuals working to change Nigeria's fortunes and bring about positive change.

Comrade Jude, a special adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Youth Matters, praised Governor Obaseki for creating an enabling environment for youth to thrive in governance. He congratulated and encouraged the newly inaugurated NYCN chairman and executives to fulfill their responsibilities with courage.

Eromosele Joseph, representing the Association of Sign Language Interpreters Nigeria (ASLIN), advocated for equal opportunities for young people living with disabilities in the political sphere. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and urged that individuals with disabilities be given the chance to work and hold significant positions.

Governor Obaseki had previously expressed his commitment to the welfare of people living with disabilities, vowing to challenge any association or organization that discriminates against them. His administration strives for an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to governance.
