As hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran escalate, another American serviceman has died following injuries sustained from Iranian missile strikes. This brings the confirmed US military casualties higher amid intensifying operations in Iran.
Prime 9ja Online had earlier reported the deaths of three US soldiers, with five others critically injured. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the most recent casualty was among those severely wounded before succumbing to injuries.
“Major combat operations continue and our response effort is ongoing. The identities of the fallen are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notification,” CENTCOM posted on X.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has authorised the use of its military bases by US forces for operations targeting Iranian missile capabilities.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer explained that the decision responds to the need for collective self-defence and protection of British lives. He accused Iran of pursuing a “scorched-earth strategy.”
Starmer clarified that the permission granted to the US is restricted to a specific, defensive mission intended to neutralise Iranian missiles “at source.” He added that the measure complies with international law and that the government had released a summary of its legal guidance to justify the action.
Reports indicate that US forces are expected to operate from RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire and the strategically located Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean to strike Iranian missile sites, according to the BBC.
Analysts warn that the UK’s support could expose it to retaliatory actions by Iran, including targeting British interests in the Middle East.
So far, combined US and Israeli military operations have reportedly caused over 550 deaths in Iran, including the nation’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with major powers remaining on high alert as the region braces for further escalation.
